Inclusive Access

Inclusive Access is a method of providing access to digital course content when instructors are using interactive courseware platforms or ebooks in place of printed text.  The program allows our campus to reduce student course materials costs in comparison to traditional print text, and ensures that every student has easy access to the content by the first day of class.  Inclusive Access is a partnership program between the NDSCS Bookstore, your instructors, and publishers to provide affordable course materials.

How it works

  • Students will receive access to the digital course materials on the first day of class.
  • Upon enrollment in the class, the Inclusive Access charge will be automatically billed to the student's account on the first day of class.
  • When an instructor chooses to use Inclusive Access for any class you enroll in, details will be communicated by the Bookstore to your NDSCS student email.  Details will include what Inclusive Access is, how much will be charged to your student account, and how to opt out of the digital materials, if you so choose.  Please watch your NDSCS email account for details!
  • Students who drop the class within the allotted timeframe are automatically opted out and will not be responsible for the cost of the digital materials.  Students who opt out of the digital materials will receive a credit on their NDSCS account, as long they've opted-out within the first 10 days of class (5 days for partial semester classes and summer classes).

Inclusive Access FAQ:

How much does Inclusive Access cost?

Prices will vary depending on the course materials chosen by your instructor.  Most Inclusive Access prices are lower than the cost to access the material directly through the publisher and averages 60% off the price of a new print textbook.

How am I billed for Inclusive Access?

You will see a charge on your NDSCS Student Account from the Bookstore on the first day of class.  If you add the class, opt-out, or drop the class between the first day of class and the opt-out deadline, your student account will be adjusted accordingly after the opt-out deadline.  There is nothing tangible to purchase from the NDSCS Bookstore.  You will receive access to the digital course materials from your instructor on the first day of class.

What does it mean to opt-out?

If you do not want to receive your digital course materials through this model, you can opt-out and receive a credit on their NDSCS account.  Simply login into your Inclusive Access Bookshelf account (see below for login instructions), navigate to the course material, and click the opt-out button.  Don't Wait!  Opt-outs are only accepted within the first 10 days of class (5 days for partial semester courses and summer terms).  Access to the digital course materials will be revoked at that time, and you will be responsible to find the required course materials by other means.  Opting out does not mean you are dropping the class.

What if I chose to opt-out, but changed my mind?

No worries!  If you are still with-in the first 10 days of class (5 days for partial semester courses and summer terms), you can click the opt-in button in your Bookshelf and have access to the materials again.  If you need assistance, send us an email [email protected]

What if I drop the course?  Can I still get a refund?

If you drop your course prior to the 10th day of class (5 days for partial semester courses and summer terms), you will automatically receive a credit on your NDSCS account for the digital course material.  Students who drop beyond the 10th day of class (5 days for partial semester and/or summer classes) are not eligible for a credit to their student account.

I added the class late. Do I still have 10 days to opt-out?

The deadline to opt-out is the 10th day of class from the term start date, (5 days for partial semester courses and summer terms).

How is the OPT OUT date determined?

The OPT-OUT deadline is the NDSCS determined date for "Full Semester Final Day to Add or Drop a Class" or "1st 8-weeks Final Day to Add or Drop a Class" or "2nd 8-weeks Final Day to Add or Drop a Class".
